Biography

Vickery Eckhoff

Mini bio

  • I'm a screenwriter and journalist based in New York City, and a former biker chick and Sunday School teacher.

My TV pilot rom-com, "The Modern Christian Spinster's Guide to Love in the 21st Century", won the faith-based TV series award at the Big Apple Film Festival and was a ScreenCraft and Made in NY Writers Room semi-finalist. Spinster was also an Austin Film Festival second-rounder; a HollyShorts Official Selection and a Faith in Film quarter-finalist.

My feature script, "The Judas Horse," is based on my three-year investigative series for Forbes into the slaughter of U.S. race horses and wild horses and the closing of Dallas Crown, one of the last horse slaughterhouses in America. I also wrote "Out of Luck", a HollyShorts Official Selection, about Willie Nelson's adoption of ten slaughter-bound Paint horses.

You can find my other writing on wild horses in Forbes, Newsweek, Salon, AlterNet and Counterpunch. Some articles you might enjoy: "How Many Congressmen Does it Take to Screw a Horse?" (Forbes); "Forbes Billionaires Top U.S. Welfare Ranchers List" (Alternet); and "Thanks to me, you can say 'penis' in the Washington Post" (vickeryeckhoff.com).
