Yasir Sitara (31 December 1988) is an American actor and producer. After acting in several minor stage roles throughout his teenage years, Sitara found some success and notoriety performing in short films while in college. He soon left for New York City in 2012 to develop his film career. His most notable work comprises of two films, Infinite Nightmare (2013) and Tango Shalom (2021).
In Tango Shalom, he is known to have played the character "Imam Ahmed", the Muslim Imam. In his portrayal, Sitara embodied the character with a seemingly effortless authenticity, which made his performance truly memorable.
Tango Shalom was also the Producing Debut for Sitara. As Co Producer, he garnered major endorsements for the film, from Archbishops, to Chief Rabbis, to Native American Chiefs, from religious institutions like "Religions for Peace", and even from educational institutions like UNESCO that promoted the film making it the first time in its history it promoted a commercial film. He also established a partnership with the "Parliament of World Religions" and successfully screened the film for religious leaders across the world, who gave the film a standing ovation. Sitara went on to create partnerships with the European council of religious leaders, United religions initiative, Muslims for progressive values and most notably received a Papal endorsement from Pope Francis. These accomplishments directly led to the recognition and world wide distribution of the film, giving credence to Sitara's ability to produce films at the highest levels of commercial distribution.
In his letter of endorsement to Yasir Sitara, Pope Francis said; " I was pleased to learn of Mr Yasir Sitara's film, which is intended to foster the values of fraternal solidarity and peace on a global level. It is my hope that this effort will serve the common good of the human family, by furthering a spirit of mutual dialogue and respect for all persons. Upon all involved in the production of this film. I invoke abundant divine blessings."
Sitara was born in Champaign, Illinois, the youngest of four children, his mother is an Arabic Teacher, and his father a Doctor of Botanical Sciences. He has Eastern-European and Middle-Eastern ancestry. Sitara received his secondary education in Tampa, Florida, where he had his first acting experiences, starring in a school production as Huckleberry Finn at the age of 14. As a child, he would memorize and rehearse entire episodes from his favorite television programs, in hopes of being one of the greatest actors of all time.
