Livio Berruti was born on 19 May 1939 in Turin, Piedmont, Italy. He was married to Silvia Balma. He died on 9 August 2026 in Turin, Italy.

Did athletics in 1955 at the Cavour high school, becoming the fastest of the Institute.

In 2006, he was one of the eight Italians who bear the Olympic flag at the closing ceremony of the Winter Games in Turin, his city.

He won Olympic gold in the 200 meters in Rome 1960.
