Biography

Asurf Oluseyi is award-winning, self-taught filmmaker, who learnt his trade from watching YouTube videos and practicing with training manuals from Ipaja, a suburb of Lagos, Nigeria.

He was featured on the Google 'Africa Connected' campaign that ran across Africa and on CNN as a celebration of success stories powered by the web. He was presented as an inspiration to young Africans taking advantage of internet in learning their skills and building careers for themselves.

Asurf has trained so many individuals in the "Art of Filmmaking and Editing" and has successfully built one of the biggest independent production houses in Nigeria, "Asurf Films Ltd". He has produced and directed hundreds of video contents across the UK, USA and Nigeria with credits for contents on local and cable TV channels, the web, and streaming platforms with awards and recognition for his works.

He has produced and directed 2 short films 'Hell or High Water' (Won Best Short Film at IFAB, International Film Awards, Berlin 2016 and got 7 International Selections), and 'A Day with Death' which got 10 International Selections, and Won Best Short Film at AMVCA 2016.

He was also a nominee at the 2016 'The Future Awards Africa' that was held in Lagos, Nigeria for Best Screen Producer.

His first feature film "HAKKUNDE" won a merit award at The IndieFEST Film Awards 2017 and also won Best Nigerian Film 2017 at the African International Film Festival. Hakkunde was the only film that represented Nigeria at 50th anniversary edition of FESPACO, held at Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in 2019.

Hakkunde is acclaimed the most decorated film out of Nigeria since 2017 with multiple nominations and over 10 international awards, selections and screening across Africa, Europe, North America and South America. Hakkunde is available on Netflix across the globe.
