Biography

Roman Popov is a Russian showman, theater and film actor. During his school years, Roman considered acting, but enrolled in the Nadezhda Krupskaya Mari State Pedagogical Institute, majoring in psychology and pedagogy. While there, he began performing on the student KVN team. Roman quickly realized that humor was his calling. Furthermore, his routines were consistently popular with audiences. Popov won the title of best showman in southern Russia and was the recipient of numerous awards and prizes. Since 2013, Popov has been a resident of Comedy Club. His debut on TNT took place shortly before the New Year. At Comedy Club, he earned the nickname Roman Kartavyy.

In 2016, Roman Popov began acting, debuting in the popular police comedy series Politseyskiy s Rublyovki (2016). The comedy series Detektivnoe agentstvo Mukhicha (2022), starring Roman Popov, premiered in the summer of 2022. In 2023, he played the lead roles in the comedies Novogodniy ol inklyuziv (2023) and Rassmeshi menya (2023).

At the turn of 2018-2019, the actor managed to lose 40 kilograms in ten months. Although his extra pounds were a gimmick used in comedy routines and film shoots, he decided to get back into shape for the sake of his appearance and health (he had heart and knee problems).

As a teenager, I dreamed of an acting career. But I didn't know how to get there. After finishing school, I applied to two universities: GITIS in Moscow and the pedagogical university in the remote small town of Yoshkar-Ola in the Mari El Republic, where I was living at the time. And with one exam left to take at GITIS and the pedagogical university, I chose Yoshkar-Ola. I was afraid of my lisp; I was very embarrassed by it.

My wife is my main advisor, and I'm very lucky to have such a wise woman. I almost never make important decisions without her opinion.
