Josiah Zane Platte was born and raised in Salisbury, New Hampshire. He grew up off-grid in the backwoods, where his family practiced homesteading and unschooling. At an early age, he started making movies with the family camcorder and his six siblings. After impressing an Emmy-winning director with a short film he made as a teenager, Josiah moved to Los Angeles to start a career in filmmaking.
