Biography

Marcos Purroy

Mini bio

  • Marcos Purroy is a multifaceted and fundamental figure in the Venezuelan artistic scene. Although widely known as a casting director, his profile is far more robust: he is a playwright, author, film and theater director, producer, and cultural manager.

As a Casting Director and Educator, Purroy has been a key figure in connecting Venezuelan acting talent with national and international productions. His vision of casting is not merely administrative but artistic; he has expressed that in an audition, he looks for the actor's "gaze" and depth beyond vocal technique. He has produced the casting for more than 1,700 commercials. In cinema, he has worked on films such as *"La Sombra del Sol" by Miguel Ferrer, "Rudo y Cursi" by Carlos and Alfonso Cuarón, "Lucy" by Roberto Gutiérrez, and "Hijo por Hijo" by Juan Avella, among many other short films.

He is also known for his pedagogical work through the Centro de Directores para el Nuevo Teatro (CDNT) and Marcos Purroy Casting (MPC), where he has trained generations of actors in the art of auditioning.

As a promoter of Venezuelan Art abroad, Purroy has served as a bridge for the artistic diaspora. He was one of the creators and directors of the Venezuelan Art Festival (VAF) in New York, an event that for several years was dedicated to showcasing Venezuelan film, theater, and music in the Big Apple and Miami.

In 2025, he took on the responsibility of film directing, creating his first two short films: "Vente$" and "Zero."
