Jaan Kristjan Utno is based in Los Angeles, working on productions as a cinematographer, camera operator, gaffer and set lighting technician. In 2022 he became active member of IATSE Local 728 - Studio Electrical Lighting Technicians.
Jaan Kristjan was born in Tallinn, Estonia into a family of 6. He grew up on the East coast of the United States, after which he achieved a formative and under-graduate education in Estonia, achieving a BFA in Crossmedia Production from Baltic Film & Media school. He returned to the United States to further his education, achieving an MFA with Honors in Cinematography in 2017 in Los Angeles. Coming up in the industry simultaneously through Camera, Grip and Electric as well as Production departments has rounded him out to be considered as a highly skilled cinematographer, with skills in pre-production, principal photography and post-production.
