Biography

Evan MacDonald

Mini bio

  • Recipient of SOCAN's inaugural "Breakout Composer of the Year" award, Evan has scored over 25 films and has had music featured on ad campaigns for some of the top brands in the world (Google, GMC, L'Oreal, Ford, Pepsi).

His recent work includes Sherpas Cinema's acclaimed documentary, "To The Hills and Back" which tells the story of the power and danger of the mountains, with first-hand accounts from mountaineers, rescuers, and those whose lives have been forever changed by the rugged peaks. This score was recorded in Budapest, Hungary with a 50 piece orchestra. In addition to this film, he recently scored GMC's promotional film "Finding Nowhere" (directed by Eric Crosland and Renan Ozturk), which follows four adventurers who embark on an epic overland journey.

In the commercial world, his music was featured over the powerful 2023 Super Bowl commercial "Stand Up to Jewish Hate." His music has also recently been featured over Ford Bronco's (UK) campaign narrated by Bryan Cranston as well as L'Oréal Paris's (national) campaign narrated by Viola Davis.

Evan has worked and recorded music at some of the most iconic studios including Abbey Road Studios and AIR Studios in London.

A multi instrumentalist, Evan is not only comfortable standing in front of an orchestra but is equally comfortable with a guitar in his hands. Evan's obsession with music started at the age of 10 when his uncle gave him a guitar. From there, him and his dad went to see any and every concert that would pass through Montreal. His biggest dreams were to be the 6th member of Aerosmith or one day play in John Mayer's band. Although this never happened, this led him to pursue music studies in which he received an undergraduate degree from McGill University in their Jazz Performance program. After graduating from McGill he was awarded a scholarship to study film scoring at Berklee College of Music where he received a Master's degree.

Evan and his wife live in a home nestled in the Canadian countryside where you can find his studio surrounded by trees and natural beauty. In his spare time he loves hiking, baking bread and pretending to be a golfer.
