Biography

Alex Dauphin (she/her) is an award-winning, Haitian-American writer-director, actor, and storyteller building art that celebrates the black, the queer, the transnational, and the femme so that those at the intersection can hear their history sung and see their beauty reflected.

Dauphin’s pilot/short By The Lake premiered at the Oscar-qualifying Atlanta Film Festival. It won Best Screenplay at the Oscar-qualifying Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival, where it also screened, and was nominated for Best Long Form Episodic Pilot at SoHo International Film Festival. It was also an Official Selection at Out on Film, Catalina Film Festival, Richmond International Film Festival, Micheaux Film Festival, Atlanta Women’s Film Festival, and others.

Dauphin’s directorial debut Jeudi won the Prix du Jury at Atlanta French Film Festival, Best LGBT Short Film at Berlin Short Film Festival, Honorable Mention at IndieX, and Best Actress at Alpine Frame Film Festival. The film earned an additional 4 nominations and was officially selected for 15 film festivals, including Out on Film, Tokyo International Film Festival, Micheaux Film Festival, and Georgia Shorts.

Dauphin’s upcoming short screenplay Last Man Standing is a Finalist at both Atlanta Film Festival and Chicago Script awards, and quarter-finalist at Raindance. Her other screenplay Monsters placed as a semifinalist at Atlanta Film Festival and Chicago Script Awards and was a second rounder at Austin Film Festival Screenwriting Competition.

Dauphin’s theatre directing credits include associate directing Cullud Wattah (Victory Gardens, dir. Lili-Anne Brown), assistant directing Last Night and The Night Before (Steppenwolf Theatre Company, dir. Valerie Curtis-Newton), Wife of A Salesman (Writers Theatre, dir. Jo Bonney), and Routes (Remy Bumppo, dir. Mikael Burke).

Dauphin’s acting credits include Die Hart (ROKU), Ordinary Joe (NBC), Dynasty (The CW), MacGyver (FOX), Long Slow Exhale (BET), and Chicago Med (NBC), Seize the King (Alliance Theatre), A Christmas Carol and The Wolves (TheatreSquared).
