Alexandra Velasco

Mini bio

  • Alexandra Velasco is an award-winning writer/director from Mexico City living in Los Angeles.

Her work is a mix of horror, comedy and drama. Alexandra harnesses her background as a visual artist and designer to create feminist art house genre films infused with social commentary through the exploration of internal conflict.

Her films and music videos have screened at museums, galleries and festivals worldwide.

Her first narrative film "The First of The Free Girls" was awarded Best Narrative Short at Women's Voices Now, Jury Selection at the Les Femmes Underground Film Festival and Best Cinematography at the Moonfaze Feminist Film Festival. In addition Alexandra was nominated for Best New Artist at the renowned Berlin Fashion Film Festival.

She has directed music videos and tour visuals for indie artists in both Mexico and the United States and was director of branded content for Sunstock Solar Festival, LA's only 100% solar-powered music and arts fest.

Alexandra is passionate about making filmmaking accessible to everyone and leads an experimental film workshop at the School of the Alternative in North Carolina. She is currently in pre-production for her short film Becoming (El Devenir) based on the true story of a former Mexican president who "accidentally" killed his nanny as a child.
