Michael Krauss was born and raised in eastern North Carolina, where he attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) to receive a degree in Theatre Education. After teaching high school in North Carolina for a few years, he moved to Austin, Texas to pursue an MFA in Scenic Design from the University of Texas at Austin. After graduating, he pursued freelance work in theatre, working on projects such as Bernstein's Mass for Leonard Bernstein's 100th Birthday Celebration, and other professional theatre credits before beginning work on film projects in Austin.
