Biography

Martin King is an Ojibway multi-media artist from Thunder Bay, Ontario with family roots in Gull Bay First Nation and Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation. Martin also went to high school in Flemington, New Jersey. He returned to Thunder Bay in 2010 to study film. After graduating from the Broadcasting and Film program at Confederation College, Martin dove into the arts and media community in a variety of ways including: directing, acting, and animation. Martin had his art in multiple exhibits at the Definitely Superior Art Gallery and the Thunder Bay Art Gallery. Martin Kings movie directing debut began with Wake Up in 2017. The movie took 2 years to make. He then made the short film Gods Park in 2019 with collaboration of Wapikoni Mobile. Gods Park also premiered at the 2019 Festival Du Nouveau Cinéma. Martin also directed his 2nd film in 2020. The movie also took 2 years to make. He is familiar with computer editing programs such as: Adobe Photoshop CC and the Adobe suite, Harmony 22, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut X and, Storyboard Pro 6. Martin had his first solo art show Everyday Distractions at Colab Gallery in Thunder Bay, Ontario on October 28th, 2022 to October 30th, 2022. Martin also enjoys volunteering and attending events in the Thunder Bay arts community. He volunteers on the board of Vox Popular Media Arts Festival and is often spotted at events drawing caricatures. Martin King recently directed his first feature film Yesterdays Rose in 2023. Martin finished an animation Mr. Noah and the Second Flood for Shebafilms Studios in 2024. Martin was a part of the ensemble of Badanai Theatre musical 9to5 which premiered to a sold out crowd at the Thunder Bay Auditorium in March 2024. Martin was a part of the ensemble for Badanai Theatre musical Young Frankenstein in February 2025.
