Self-taught guitarist, composer and singer, Nahuel Pennisi has found a place among many recognized artists from Argentina, specially in the country's folk music scene. Nahuel was born blind, but that didn't get in the way of his passion for music. At age 4 he began to play melodies on a keyboard. Then he did it on the bass, but since he was too small to carry it, his parents would put it on the bed or table, which would mark a unique way for him to play: his right hand "deciphers" the chords while his left hand "marks" the rhythm, while the six strings lie on his legs, reclined as when he was a child. Finally, he made the guitar a part of himself, developing a personal technique.
When he was 16 years old and, while in high school, he started working as a street musician
When he finished school he devoted himself fully to music, which ultimately paid off. In 2009 he participated for the first time in the Cosquín Folklore Festival, where he met Luis Salinas and played with him at his concerts.
In 2012 he recorded his independent debut album: "Nahuel Pennisi, el Sueño de la Canción" ("Nahuel Pennisi, the Dream of the Song").
In October 2015 he landed a contract on the Sony Music label. On December 11 his second album, "Primavera" ("Spring"), is released. It contains 13 songs by Nahuel and fellow composers and two covers: "El Necio" ("The Fool"), by Silvio Rodríguez and "Oración del Remanso" ("The Backwater Prayer"), by Jorge Fondeármele. Franco Luciani participates in the eponymous first single on harmonica. Teresa Parodi, Chango Spasiuk, Luis Salinas and Tery Langer (from the band Carajo) also collaborated.
The album earned a Latin Grammy Award nomination for Best Folk Album. At the awards ceremony in Las Vegas, Nahuel took the stage and performed "Primavera", managing to mesmerize the audience.
On November 27 he is declared "Outstanding Personality of Culture" by the Legislature of the City of Buenos Aires.
On February 26, 2020, Nahuel Pennisi performed for the first time at the International Song Festival in Viña del Mar, Chile. He represented Argentina in the contest with his song "Avanzar" ("Moving Forward") and obtained 5.3 points and the national average was 6.5 points (the maximum is 7). He earned two Seagulls: "Best Folklore Performer" and "Best Song".
As of 2021 he has released three non-independent albums.
