Dr. Sagar

Biography

  • Dr. Sagar is an acclaimed Indian poet and lyricist known for his deep-rooted connection to regional dialects and his powerful storytelling through songs. Born in Kakari village in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, he pursued higher education at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and later completed his M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, with his doctoral thesis dedicated to legendary poet Sahir Ludhianvi. Dr. Sagar has been active in the Hindi film industry for over a decade and has written lyrics for nearly 50 films. He gained national and international acclaim with the rap song "Bambai Main Ka Ba" performed by Manoj Bajpayee and directed by Anubhav Sinha, for which he was honored by the Governor of Maharashtra. His emotionally resonant songs like "Heraile Ba" from Bheed and regional hits such as "Thok Denge Katta Kapaar Mein" from Khakee: The Bihar Chapter have made him a distinctive voice in Indian cinema. He has collaborated with prominent filmmakers including Sudhir Mishra, Anubhav Sinha, Anurag Kashyap, Subhash Kapoor, and Neeraj Pandey, and worked alongside renowned music directors like Salim-Sulaiman, Anurag Saikia, Vipin Patwa, Rohit Sharma, and Ilaiyaraaja. Dr. Sagar has also written all songs across the hit web series Maharani (starring Huma Qureshi) and contributed to popular series such as TVF's Flames and Gram Chikitsalay. His song from Bollywood Diaries-"Khwabon Ko Sach Karne Ke Liye Titli Ne Saare Rang Bech Diye"-was featured in the Top Ten Lyrics by both BBC and The Lallantop in 2016. His upcoming projects include lyrics for Maharani Season 4 and songs in Nishanchi, directed by Anurag Kashyap.
