An autodidact from Missouri's Little Dixie with a professional history unlike any other - including time as a truck driver in Lahore, a black box theatre director in Los Angeles, an art restorer in Brussels, an unlicensed sommelier in Hong Kong, a mortician's assistant in Vermont, a screenwriter under various noms de plume, a tea farmer in Yunnan, an underwater welder in Louisiana, a bush pilot in Alaska, a blues guitarist in the Chattanooga Valley - with serious obsessions regarding nitrocellulose film, Jesse James and shojin ryori cuisine, Erick Sommers has traveled a long and discursive road to film production.

Along the way, he's picked up obscure languages, strange degrees and an unusually varied skill-set, one that almost never gets a chance to fully express itself outside the four-dimensional puzzle of film.
