His first given name is uncertain, but might have been Mihail, Marcel or Max. We only know for certain that he sometimes signed his letters with 'Max' or 'Marcel'. His books were all published under the name M. Blecher.

The title of Anca Hirte's documentary Voyage dans l'irréalité immédiate (2004) is a reference to one of his novels.
