Lachlan Marks

Biography

Lachlan Marks

Biography

  • A graduate of the Australian Film Television & Radio School, Lachlan Marks is an award-winning genre screenwriter, now based in Amsterdam.

Focused on horror, sci-fi and dark comedy, he’s passionate about examining monsters of all varieties through unexpected, timely and inclusive stories.

Lachlan works individually and with long-term writing trio MMGG, featuring fellow genre-nerds Bec Moret and Jasper Garner Gore.

As a screenwriter and script editor, he’s been hired to work on TV and feature film projects in the US, Canada, UK and Europe for the likes of Pure Imagination Studios, TF1 America, Blooming Media, Rinkel Film, Mint Films and Explorers of the Unfound.

MMGG’s first produced film, teen thriller My Son’s Deception, starring Kate Drummond (Wynonna Earp, The Man From Toronto) and Carson MacCormac (Shazam!, Clown In A Cornfield), debuted on Lifetime Movie Network in August 2024. Ever tried to a write a PG-rated Eyes Wide Shut? It was a challenge!

His script Game won Best Unproduced Short Screenplay at A Night Of Horror International Film Festival, later filming in LA in 2024 with acclaimed actor Damon Herriman (Mindhunter, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Justified ).

Now titled DIY, the short premiered at the Sydney Film Festival, with US and UK premieres at Screamfest LA and FrightFest London, followed by two sold out screenings at Austin Film Festival.

DIY was nominated for Best Short Film at the AACTAs 2026, Australia’s Academy Award and Best Short Screenplay at the AWGIES (Australian Writers’ Guild Awards).

Lachlan’s short horror satire THIR$T TRAP was granted major funding by the Dutch Filmfonds in 2026, set to shoot in 2027 with director Kelly Klingenberg.

In 2025, he won the H.P. Lovecraft Award at Rhode Island International Film Festival for the cosmic horror short The Birdwatcher directed by Ryan Mackfall.

In 2018, his horror mystery TV pilot Small Town, co-written with childhood friend/bully Ella Roby, won the WeScreenplay and Shore Scripts screenwriting competitions and was awarded major development funding from Scripted Ink, the screenwriting incubator run by show runner Shane Brennan (NCIS:LA).

After his horror adventure script Fingers was nominated for the Monte Miller Award in 2017, Lachlan was inducted into the Australian Writers’ Guild Pathways program, showcasing talented local screenwriters.

Funded by Screen NSW for multiple residencies with Australians In Film at the The Lot Studios in Hollywood, in 2024 Lachlan and MMGG were invited to speak on a panel with screenwriter/show runner Jessica Goldberg (Hulu’s The Path, Netflix’s Away) and actor/writer Charmaine Bingwa (The Good Fight, Emancipation), discussing their experience of navigating feedback when working for US studios.

As a creative, Lachlan has developed videos for major heavy metal artists including Trivium and Amon Amarth, now viewed over four million times.

Before committing to a tortured life of screenwriting, he worked as an entertainment journalist and continues as the touring guitarist for ARIA-nominated post-rock band Sleepmakeswaves internationally.

As such, he’s well-accustomed to long hours, little sleep, large egos and surviving on literal peanuts. Comes in handy in the film and TV industry too.
