"You should be able to ask the dumb questions or express yourself fully," he says, believing that trust and openness are essential to a successful production. His leadership style is shaped by both his experience on set and his martial arts background, which taught him the value of staying present and improvising. Kashmir likens the unpredictability of filmmaking to sparring, where you have to rely on your instincts and adapt in the moment. This flexibility is central to his directing style, especially in live performance and documentary settings, where the original shot list may take a backseat to what feels right in the moment. Kashmir's resourcefulness has been key to his success. Early in his career, he made a short film called Bully, where he improvised a critical shot using nothing but his wallet as a makeshift tripod. The shot received unexpected praise, and that moment taught him a valuable lesson: "If you are confident in your choices and get what you need, it doesn't matter how you get there." This philosophy has carried him through countless projects, always open to creative solutions and improvisation, but grounded in a deep commitment to his vision. His ability to switch between the creative and entrepreneurial sides of the business is another strength that sets him apart. "I lean heavily on my mentors," Kashmir notes, acknowledging that while he wears many hats, he never hesitates to seek guidance when navigating the challenges of the industry. His mentors, from his guitar teacher in middle school to his film teacher in college, have played a significant role in shaping his approach, teaching him the importance of fully committing to every project. Kashmir's respect for every role on and off set keeps him grounded. He believes in the value of humility, always staying open to learning and never assuming superiority in communication. "It doesn't serve the crew or the team to judge anyone for needing help," he says, reinforcing the collaborative ethos that has defined his career.
