- Michael Kosterman is a singer songwriter and actor from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. He was born in the city of New Westminster, just outside of Vancouver, and raised across the river to the south in the municipality of Delta.
As a young man, Michael was involved in sports, particularly hockey and track and field. At the age of 15 he discovered music and the guitar. A couple of years later at the age of 17 he began playing live. His first paid performance was at the California Raquet Club in Surrey.
Michael was a troubled youth and by the age of 16 had dropped out of school to work in the family's sporting goods company called K-7 Sports. A few years later he joined the Canadian Military where he served in Canada, The United States and Japan. Michael was honorably discharged in June of 1983 after serving on the HMCS Mackenzie and the HMCS Gatineau.
During the 1980s and the early 1990s Michael tried acting, but didn't enjoy the audition process, and left film and TV to focus on music. He has been playing in various music projects in and around the Greater Vancouver area for the past 30 years. In 2009 Michael was signed to In the Spotlight Records in Mt Juliet Tennessee, but an album was never released by the record company. In that same year he was invited to Tennessee to sing the American National Anthem before a race at the Fairgrounds Speedway.
Michael independently released the album My Heart Is A Song in 2010. The title track and one other, titled I Love Her Anyway both received commercial airplay in Canada and abroad, but never reached the mainstream. To this day there has not been a follow up album.
In July 2015 Michael returned to acting. He had a supporting role in the sci fi thriller Psychonaut, to be released in Jan/Feb of 2016 a co starring role in Enjoy the Ride, a comedy short film by Bright Orlando Productions, and the role of Oscar the miner in the independent zombie film Blood Pays Blood. All in post production and to be released in either late 2015 or early 2016.
