I am a sex symbol and I have hardly any hair on my head. I am not somebody who could still be described as good-looking.

[asked whether Wanda's busy tour schedule has taken its toll on his health] I am told by all my acquaintances and friends and relatives, by everyone, that I look much healthier than before! [giggles]

My relatives, they were all drunkards living in the hills around Bologna, traveling from tavern to tavern, playing the accordion. That's how it was told to me by my mom. [Is it a myth?] Well, maybe a bit. But they are just all dead already. I visited them once when I was a child. My memory: 20 family members at the table and I couldn't see them because there were 15 steaming pots on the table.

I write these songs as good as I can, but anyway only to justify myself before John Lennon. My benchmark is John Lennon. He is the only human who understands something about my deeper work.

Sometimes good music manages to become mainstream. That is still allowed to happen.
