Biography

Daniel Soares is a German-born Portuguese screenwriter, director and photographer. His short film Bad for a moment premiered in official competition at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Jury's Special Mention. His previous short film, What Remains, was screened at the Telluride Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand, Hong Kong IFF and Shanghai IFF, among others. The film won the Grand Prix du Jury at Angers Premiers Plans and the Best Short Film Award of the national competition at IndieLisboa, among other prizes. In 2022, he took part in the Locarno Spring Academy, where he shot Please Make It Work, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival. The film went on to screen at Clermont-Ferrand, Dokufest, Hollyshorts and IndieLisboa, among other festivals, and won Best Short Film in the international competition at the Zagreb International Film Festival. Daniel is developing his first feature film, 900 Tons, which received writing and development support from ICA and was selected for the European feature film development programme LIM (Le Groupe Ouest).
