Biography

Scott Alexander Naar is a Jamaican-born, LA-dwelling Screenwriter and Director who specializes in the drama and horror genres. Naar began his filmmaking journey at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale where he wrote and directed short films that spanned different genres, wanting to experiment and find what his niche was. He eventually left the Art Institute for the University of Miami's Master's program for film and found that Drama, specifically drama dealing with family dysfunction, mental illness, and outcast characters were his niche and so dove headfirst into making his first few focused short films "Benjamin", "Nightscapes", and "I'm Alive". Both Benjamin and Nightscapes went on the festival circuit and got into multiple film festivals including the Atlanta Sci-Fi Film festival and the Miami Shorts film Festival. Naar then went on to make "Goldfish" his first true family drama film which acquired many accolades and entered the Yonkers Film Festival. His thesis film and the last of his "Outcast trilogy" was "Hallie", a surrealistic drama about a 20 something with schizophrenia. This film won Scott best director at his school's local film festival and played at festivals in both Los Angeles and New York. Naar was then able to acquire a distribution deal with Shortstv for his short films "Goldfish and "Hallie" which are still playing on their channel on DirectTV. Naar then pivoted to the horror genre after school and began both directing and writing short horror films as well as writing horror feature scripts with his wife/co-writing partner Sarah Hartman-Naar. One of their scripts, "Demon" was recently optioned. Naar wrote and directed his first horror short in 2019 titled "Umbra" which has since gone on to have success online as a viral hit.

Naar has called himself a "cult enthusiast" and is quite fascinated by the nature of cults and fringe sect groups.

Naar's three films he made in graduate school "Benjamin", "Goldfish", and "Hallie" are all part of a non-connected trilogy series he calls the "Outcast" trilogy.

Naar has been a fan of the horror genre since childhood.

Scott Alexander Naar's first project was a campy vampire movie named "Son of Nosferatu" that he shot in college with his roommates.
