Twiggy Matiwana is a South African filmmaker, writer, and director whose work explores justice, identity, memory, and the resilience of communities navigating social change. Matiwana has directed for Netflix’s Unseen and contributed to several acclaimed South African television productions. Her work has also included collaborations with international organisations documenting critical issues such as the global water crisis in South Africa’s Eastern Cape.
Her filmography spans fiction and documentary, with projects including Dear Sis Dolly, inspired by the iconic Drum Magazine advice column*. She’s currently developing The Trajectory of uNongqawuse*, an experimental film reimagining of one of South Africa’s most enduring legends.
