J.R. Hawkins is an American director and visual effects supervisor known for designing cinematic visual effects solutions that allow productions to achieve large-scale visuals on practical budgets. Working across film and television, he has served as an on-set VFX supervisor on network television series and feature films, collaborating closely with directors and production teams to integrate visual effects into live-action filmmaking.
Hawkins is the co-founder of the Atlanta-based visual effects studio Area 77 VFX, where he oversees visual effects supervision and production strategy. Through the company, he has worked on numerous episodic television projects and feature films, coordinating with producers, showrunners, and post-production teams to deliver efficient, story-driven visual effects.
He studied motion picture arts at Florida State University, where he met his wife and creative collaborator, author and producer Persephonie Rose.
