Biography

Sisir Kumar Sahu is an Indian film director from Odisha, known for his realistic and emotionally driven storytelling in Odia cinema. He studied filmmaking at the Biju Pattanaik Film and Television Institute of Odisha from 2008 to 2011 and began his career in the Hindi film industry in 2011, working as an Assistant Director and Editor with acclaimed filmmakers Ashutosh Gowariker, Shyam Benegal, and Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi. These experiences significantly shaped his cinematic vision and storytelling approach. He later returned to Odisha to pursue an independent directing career in the Odia film industry. His feature films include Charitra (2020), Daalcheeni (2021), Misiri (2022), Phalguna Chaitra (2023), and My Sweet Housewife (2023). In 2026, he delivered the blockbuster family drama Murabi, which received widespread appreciation from both audiences and critics. Sisir Kumar Sahu was honored with the prestigious 35th Odisha State Film Award for Best Director, jointly with filmmaker Peenakee Singh for My Sweet Housewife. His films have earned recognition at the Odisha State Film Awards and have been screened at national and international film festivals. In addition to feature films, he has directed acclaimed short films including Farchaa (Dawn) (2017), Swahaa (2019), and A Cup of Monsoon (2021). He is regarded as one of the new-generation filmmakers contributing to the evolution of Odia cinema through fresh genres, authentic storytelling, and character-driven narratives.
