Biography

  • Emma Young is a film, tv, and commercial actress, a singer, pianist, music producer and composer, as well as a screenwriter and director. Her 2023 original short film "The Piece" received 9 festival acceptances including The Boston Underground Film Festival and New York No Limits Film Series. She is currently writing and performing as part of NYC sketch comedy team Late For Dinner at the Players Theater. With her roots in New England and her heart in New York, Emma began her creative journey as a classically trained pianist, graduating from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelor of Music and continuing on to study music production on full scholarship at PopAkademie, Germany. Returning to the states, she won the coveted Manifest Songwriting Competition in 2020, and began a music production internship at Mobile Mic Studios. While studying music during the school year, she spent her summers acting at regional equity theater Trinity Repertory Theatre Company, where she did 4 years at the Young Actors Summer Institute. She later became a teacher there for 3 years and played piano for their musical theater classes. Emma completed an acting minor at Columbia College Chicago and continued to train once in New York at Stella Adler and The Barrow Group. Emma's musical talent led her book a SONY Music commercial, and find commercial acting success with other brands such as McGraw Hill, Wantable, Ives Bank, and Athleisure Magazine. On stage, Emma played Maisie in the official off-broadway cast of Remembering Morgan at Playwright's Horizons in the 2023 Downtown Urban Arts Festival. Her directorial debut as a filmmaker with the short "The Piece" was nominated for two awards and many more festival acceptances. Inspired by her journey from a pianist, to the multi-faceted artist she is now, this film takes an artistic point of view at her experience with imposter syndrome while rigorously studying music. She hopes the film's dark theme will illuminate the overpowering anxiety some musicians struggle through in a highly competitive environment. Forever a nature-lover, Emma actively rock climbs, hikes, and skis the Hudson Valley/Catskill region. She aims to keep her lifestyle a healthy of balance of peaks and skyscrapers.
