Biography

Sabina Collazo is a Puerto Rican actress who grew up in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. She is the daughter of ophthalmic surgeon Ernesto Collazo and academician Agnes Malaret. She attended Saint John's School where she began to participate in the school musicals at age 9 and became interested in performing. She began taking voice lessons at the Puerto Rico Music Conservatory and then with renowned opera singer Hilda Ramos. After traveling to the mainland United States for theater camps and master classes, she was admitted into University of Michigan's Musical Theater program where she honed her talents as a professional actress and singer and excelled academically. During her time at the University of Michigan, she ran the Michigan Performance Outreach Workshop for two years, helping elementary students in Detroit learn about the performing arts. She also worked on several short films and new works, including Jordan Jones which was well received at several film festivals. Upon graduation, she did not showcase with her class because she chose to stay at the University of Michigan for one more year to get her Masters of Management at the Ross School of Business. She then showcased in New York City with the next class of musical theater graduates and proceeded to move to Los Angeles to pursue film and television. When Hurricane Maria hit, she became heavily involved in relief efforts as one of the founding members of Voices for Puerto Rico and Relief4PR. These relief efforts caused her to move to New York after only a year because she felt she needed to be closer to her family and her island. There, she began working in regional theater productions as well as commercials. Most notably, Sabina played Maria in Milwaukee Repertory Theater's revolutionary production of "West Side Story" in which the choreography was re-imagined by "Hamilton"s Jon Rua and a dialect coach was hired to ensure proper representation of Puerto Ricans after Sabina mentioned in her callback what a difference accents can make for a Spanish-speaking audience. She is based in New York City where she works as an actress as well as producing her own content.
