Genevieve Thiers is a crossover artist that is skilled in acting, TV, musical theater and opera. Her agent is Shirley Hamilton. Her most recent work includes the role of Praskovia in Susan Stroman's The Merry Widow at Chicago Lyric Opera, alongside Renee Fleming and Thomas Hampson, solo performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Pritzker Pavilion with Fulcrum Point New Music in Chicago, an understudy role in North China Lover with Lookingglass Theatre, the anthem at Taste of Chicago, the role of Reverend Mother in Nunsense at the Mayne Stage in Chicago, several live performances on WFMT radio in Chicago and a role in VC, the series. Her voice has appeared in a TODAY show segment, onstage at TED Global in 2010 and on local news affiliates in Chicago and she does frequent recording work for commercials.
Genevieve's straight acting work includes roles with Lookingglass Theatre (understudy North China Lover-Mother and Lady in Red,) Fury Theater (Much Ado About Nothing,) Theatre D in Deerfield (When the Fat Lady Sings,) Grippo Theater (Sex Marks the Spot) and On the Spot Theater at the Rivendell. Her film work includes the web series VC, a featured extra role in feature film The View from Tall, a role in the latest Chicago History museum MainStage film, as well as several student productions and commercials, including Chai Lifeline, Honda, Sittercity.com and more. Genevieve has sung with The Lyric Opera of Chicago, NY Lyric Opera, Fulcrum Point New Music, Mayne Stage Chicago, American Chamber Opera, OperaModa, Elgin Opera, Chicago Chamber Opera and many other NYC and local Chicago companies. Her recent singing experience includes Praskovia in Susan Stroman's The Merry Widow at Chicago Lyric, the Rev. Mother in Nunsense, Adele in Die Fledermaus, the repeat role of Leila and Mrs. Patterson in The March, Lucy in The Telephone, Dorine in Tartuffe, Lola in Gallantry, Beth in Little Women, Vera in A Month in the Country and Sarah Good in The Crucible. Her frequent recitals showcasing American Opera in Chicago have taken place in Fourth Presbyterian Church, Northbrook Public Library, Evanston Public Library, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, and Julius Meinl on Southport. She has also been featured as the Dot.Com Diva in Classical Singer magazine, where she talks with singers about how to merge their career with entrepreneurism.
Genevieve's concert and performance experience also includes a recital tour through Oxford University in 1999. Genevieve has received several vocal awards, including the North Shore Musicians Club 2003 Scholarship, the Latetia M. Blain Boston College soloist award in 2000, and the Philadelphia Naval award for singing in 1996. Genevieve has taken many classes in crossover techniques at the Acting Studio of Chicago. She has taken Adam Belcuore's class, breaking down scenes, Film Acting 3 with Janelle Snow and various seminars. Her agent is Shirley Hamilton, in Chicago.
Genevieve is beginning a new career alongside her performance career as a playwright and screenwriter, and takes classes at Chicago Dramatists, including musical theater writing, playwriting and screenwriting. Among her work is the play Akropolis, the screenplay Demenia, a new play The Queen of Hearts and the new musical Everly Yours, moving into a workshop with Porchlight Fall of 2015!
