Barbara Fava(I)

  • Actress
IMDbProStarmeterSee rank
Barbara Fava is an Italian actress, performer, martial artist and disability advocate whose career has taken her from Milan to Mexico and across Europe. Based in Europe, Barbara works across film, television, live entertainment and sports, while using her platform to champion greater inclusion for disabled and neurodivergent people in athletics and representation in the entertainment industry.

Born and raised in Milan, Italy, Barbara developed an early fascination with languages, communication and different cultures. That curiosity eventually led her to Mexico, where she lived for nearly seven years and established both her professional career and a lasting connection with the country. Fluent in Italian, English and Spanish, Barbara became deeply immersed in Mexican and Latin American culture and continues to consider the Latino community an important part of her personal and professional life.

Barbara began working in media and entertainment in Mexico before transitioning into acting. Her television credits include the Telemundo series La Querida del Centauro as ‘Irma,’ Guerra de Ídolos, internationally known as Price of Fame, as ‘Barbara,’ and the Televisa comedy Mi Marido Tiene Familia as ‘Loretta.’ Her film credits include In the Company of Strangers and Soy Tu Fan: La Película.

Her career has also extended beyond traditional film and television. Barbara has performed in live motorcycle stunt productions and worked as an official live-event voice for Monster Energy Latin America, placing her at the intersection of entertainment and action sports. Her experience as a multilingual performer and communicator has allowed her to work naturally with international productions, audiences and creative teams.

Athletics have played an equally important role in Barbara’s life. She is a Shotokan Karate black belt and international elite karate competitor who has earned world and European championship titles at major international competitions. Her experience as an autistic athlete eventually led her into coaching and inclusive karate, where she works to create greater access and visibility for athletes with disabilities and neurodivergent competitors.

Barbara has become particularly committed to challenging the idea that disability and elite performance are incompatible. Through competition, coaching and public advocacy, she works to show that disabled athletes belong not only in sport, but at its highest levels. She uses her own career to encourage greater understanding of invisible disabilities and to push for sporting environments in which difference is accommodated rather than treated as a limitation.

Her years in Mexico also shaped another important part of her advocacy. Having built much of her early career within the Latin American community, Barbara remains outspoken in her support of Latino people and culture and has maintained a strong relationship with the Mexican audiences and communities that embraced her during her years there.

Whether she is working on camera, performing live or stepping onto the tatami, Barbara brings together two worlds that have defined her life: storytelling and fighting. Both have taught her the same lesson: that strength means very little without empathy, and that having a voice matters most when it can be used to make space for someone else.
