Biography

Stela Papastefanou is a Greek filmmaker, illustrator, and graphic designer based in the United Kingdom. She holds a Master's Degree in Architecture from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which she completed in 2006, and later earned a Master's Degree in Film and Cinema Studies from the same institution. Her documentary Me anamniseis kai tragoudia (2015), which she has been developing since 2014, examines the Jewish Community Choir of Thessaloniki and the endangered Judeo-Spanish language that survives primarily through traditional songs, exploring the broader history and culture of the Mediterranean region. Beyond filmmaking, Papastefanou has built a diverse portfolio in visual storytelling and illustration. She contributed lettering to Small Lifes, a graphic album about Greek immigrants following the Greco-Turkish War of 1923, published by Enati Diastasi in 2015. She also created several comic fanzines and contributed to 'Bougatsa me melani', an anthology comic book centered on Thessaloniki. Her work spans film production, video editing, creative writing, and digital illustration, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach rooted in both architectural training and narrative arts.
