Hedy Gregor

Hedy Gregor is an actress/writer and a voice-over artist. She lives in Toronto but was born in the Czech Republic and lived many years in London, England, before moving and settling in Canada. Her first experience on set was Habermann, a 2010 Czech-German co-production war movie set in the 30s. Hedy was there as an extra at first, but because of her persistence, she was picked to be in a couple of scenes with the lead of the movie out of hundreds of others. This filming experience gave her the courage to consider acting as a serious path. As a Czech-born actress, there are advantages to knowing Slavic languages. Apart from Czech, Hedy is fluent in Slovak, can communicate in Polish, and worked on a project where she had lines in Slovenian. Her education started when she made a self-tape and sent it to a theater program in London. She was accepted and took English as a part of the program to ensure she could keep up with the program and improve her language skills. Hedy did a couple of theater courses, including a well-known course at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She also performed at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama as a part of her final exams and received an ATCL Diploma in Performing. As much as she loves theater, acting in the film was always her first choice. Therefore she left England and moved to Toronto, where she studied a two-year Acting for Media program at George Brown College. She studied under multiple well-established actors in the industry, such as Laura de Carteret and Adam MacDonald. Thanks to the program, she had a chance to learn about mocaps, combat for the film as well as voice-over acting among others. She wrote and produced her short film 'Who Are You' right upon her graduation as a tribute to her friend who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. She took care of her friend for four years. The short movie reflects on her experience with the disease and its complexity. It was played on a couple of festivals and is also part of multiple independent screening platforms. Hedy had a chance to work for years on a YouTube show Super Science Friends, where she portrayed the character of the Polish scientist Marie Curie. Her character also had a separate channel that was very popular on YouTube and gained a solid fan base. One of Hedy's favorite projects was a part in a documentary 'Escaping the Nazis with Forte Entertainment, where she portrayed the mother of a holocaust survivor Fishel Goldig. It was a non speaking role, so she had a chance to demonstrate her expressive skills. Since then, she has been in multiple independent projects and collaborations. Hedy also continuously writes and works on her projects. She also takes private accent classes with Joy Juckes to ensure she has as many doors open as possible. Hedy has come a long way. She had to learn English at an advanced level fast, so she did it. She had to figure out an immigration to stay in Canada and get jobs, so she did it. She is aware of how hard this industry is but doesn't use it as an excuse not to continue. She believes that one day, accents will be an asset as opposed to an obstacle to overcome.
