Elana Kahn was born on August 8, 1983 in White Plains, New York as Elana Miriam Blumenthal. She was raised in the Rochester, New York suburb of Brighton.
Elana began acting at a young age, participating in a stage event with Bob McGrath from Sesame Street (1969) when she was 5. At age 9, she started performing in summer camp plays. Elana's first film production experience came that same year when she was a background extra in Indian Summer (1993). Elana took stage acting classes with teacher Justine Garsys in the 1990s at the Rochester Association of Performing Arts and Justine Garsys Performing Arts studios. During those years she acted in a wide variety of plays and musicals. Most notably, she played Molly in "Annie" and Grizabella in "Cats." In the late 1990s, Elana performed in her first lead role as Dorothy Gale in a camp stage production of "The Wizard of Oz." Elana continued acting throughout high school and college, participating in stage productions of "Once Upon a Mattress," "Brigadoon," "Crazy For You," and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Her two most significant roles during this time were Martha Dobi in "The Children's Hour" and Reba Freitag in "The Last Night of Ballyhoo." Elana took some time off from acting in 2006 and re-entered the acting world in 2015 with several principal roles.
