Biography

Jimel Atkins spent his early childhood in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he developed a deep love for sports and film. His passion for athletics led him to pursue a career as a wide receiver for the University of South Florida, where he played from 2012 to 2015.

In 2016, Jimel made the pivotal decision to transition from athletics and college life to follow his creative passions. He soon landed a role in the Netflix hit series Mindhunter. His first recurring television role came as Ray Kelly in the critically acclaimed, Peabody Award-winning OWN series David Makes Man, produced by Oprah Winfrey, Michael B. Jordan, and Oscar winner Tarell Alvin McCraney.

Jimel's early collaborations with visionary writers and directors laid the foundation for his major recurring role as Jamaal "Silk" Wilkes in HBO's Winning Time, created by Adam McKay, Max Borenstein, and Rodney Barnes. Winning Time premiered in 2022 and marked a defining moment in Jimel's acting career.
