Biography

Vee Hua (they/them) is a writer and filmmaker based in primarily in Oaxaca, Mexico, and partially in Seattle, Washington. Their work unifies their metaphysical interests with their belief that art can positively transform the self and society. They are the founding Editor-in-Chief of the interdisciplinary arts publication, REDEFINE magazine and recent Co-Chair of the City of Seattle's Arts Commission.

For nearly four years, they were Executive Director at the interdisciplinary community hub, Northwest Film Forum, where they played a groundbreaking role in making it more welcoming and accessible for diverse audiences. They are also the former Editor in Chief at the Asian American publication International Examiner, as well as Managing Editor of the BIPOC-led news outlet South Seattle Emerald.

Their latest feature film in-progress, RECKLESS SPIRITS, is a metaphysical, multilingual POC best friend comedy; the feature film recently completed filming in Spring 2026 and is slated for release in mid-2027.

In 2017, Vee released the narrative short film, SEARCHING SKIES, which touches on Syrian refugee resettlement in the United States; they also co-organized The Seventh Art Stand, a national film and civil rights discussion series against Islamophobia.

Vee also has a documentary short film about Hunt’s Trading Post in Southern Utah, near the Navajo and Ute Nations. They have a Master’s in Tribal Resource and Environmental Stewardship at the American Indian Studies Department at the University of Minnesota.
