Biography

JZ Murdock is an award-winning filmmaker and author recognized for compelling storytelling across film and literature. His multi-award-winning documentary Pvt. Ravel's Bolero and noir-horror short "Gumdrop" showcase his range on screen.

A member of the Horror Writers Association, Murdock's epic horror/ science fiction novel Death of Heaven (NYC Big Book Award for Horror) and the Anthology of Evil series highlight his literary achievements.

His nonfiction includes Suffering "Long Covid", a memoir offering insights into the condition. His 2026 documentary Light Snowflakes: America's Second Orbit, built around a rare 1962 VOX Productions mission record of Scott Carpenter's Aurora 7 Mercury flight, continues his work in documentary filmmaking.

Murdock's true-crime drama The Teenage Bodyguard has won multiple screenplay awards, received positive coverage from The Black List, and was featured on a true-crime podcast. His horror-comedy Gray and Lover: The Hearth Tales Incident received the Asimov Gold Award at the L.A. Sci-Fi Film Festival, and his short screenplay Popsicle Death was a finalist in the 13 Horror Screenplay Contest.

A US Air Force veteran, Murdock studied psychology and screenwriting at Western Washington University and attended film seminars led by legendary director Stanley Kramer. He co-founded the Gorst Underground Film Festival and the Covid killed, Slash Night Monthly Shorts Festival in Bremerton, Washington, which brought international indie films to local audiences for years. He continues to develop film and literary projects under his banner, LgN Productions and LgN Press.
