Biography

Sofea Watkins is known for Sex Sent Me to the ER, Christian Brothers, Man of the House, and Teacher's Lounge. Sofea Lynn Watkins starting singing at the tender age of three years old in the children's sunshine choir at her church. As a young adolescent she founded the gospel group" The Watkins singers" who sang all over the city of Memphis. As a teenager in high school, she won Miss Choir and Runner up to Miss Mitchell before graduating. She also performed in many city-wide talent shows. She started directing choirs at a young age and would continue to do so throughout college. In college she won the coveted title of Miss Shelby State after being told that she would not be allowed to sing. She had to act instead. Little did the pageant committee know that she was a great little actress. She is formally trained as a Special Education Teacher. After college, Sofea started working at local churches as a Choir Director. In September of 2005, she was appointed Minister of Music of a mega church. Her experiences as Choir Director and Praise Team Leader influenced and fashioned her awareness and strategies in commanding the stage with every performance. In 2005 her career as a songwriter would soon take off. Two of her songs were featured on the 2005 Bridge Awards winning CD of the year, entitled "The Prodigal Son" by Jeffrey Williams. She was selected in April 2007 to teach one of her original songs to the Gospel Music Workshop of America in a Songwriter's Workshop. She also received a nod for Choir Director of the year for a Gospel Bridge Award that year. As a vocalist, she has shared the stage with such artists as Howard Hewitt, Donnie McClerkin, Israel & Newbreed, Taralyn Ramsey, LaShun Pace Rhodes, Melanie Daniels, Daryl Cooley, Melba Moore, Beverly Crawford, Timothy Wright, Rance Allen, Marvin Winans, Dottie Peeples, Walter Hawkins,and Gypsy Kings. In 2013, Sofea launched Watkins & Silverstein Management and Artist Development Group to educate, impart, and develop others in their journey of fulfilling purpose in the earth. She moved to Long Beach with her son, Nathan Davis Jr, who is an actor and recording artist to manage his career. She soon was bitten by the acting bug and put up her acting profile. She had 5 audition notices within the hour. She went on to star in several web series until she landed her first role on TV, Sex sent Me to the ER. The clip has been shared on vine over 11 million times. Little did she know that her next role would be with Betty White and Anthony Anderson.
