Jorge Luis Villacorta Santamato is a Peruvian film director, actor, professor, and researcher.
He studied film production under the guidance of Dov Simens [a.k.a. "Dov S-S Simens"]. A Producer's Diploma was awarded on April 17, 2011 upon graduation from the Hollywood Film Institute to Jorge Villacorta in the capacity of Feature Film Producer.
The oldest university in Peru, the National University of San Marcos, established in May 12, 1551, is where Jorge Villacorta earned his bachelor's degree and master's degree in the area of Communications. There, he has given lectures at the School of Communication on subjects like "The Making of Three Reputations: Leonidas Zegarra Uceda (Peru), Alfred Hitchock (U.K.), Walt Disney (U.S.)" (September 23, 2010) and "Hollywood and the U.S. Intelligence Community" (October 13, 2012). The magazine of the Academic Department of Communication published his scholarly article "Hollywood and the U.S. Intelligence Community" the year 2012. At the First International Symposium on Communications, organized by the School of Communications, Jorge read the paper "Leonidas Zegarra and Film Criticism as a Tool Against the Freedom of Expression" (August 27, 2014).
Due to his interest in art and filmmaking, Jorge Villacorta underwent a doctoral program in the History of Art at the National University of San Marcos. The subject of his doctoral thesis is "A Study of the Filmmaking Style of Leonidas Zegarra in 'Mary and the Poor Children' (2010)" [the movie is known as María y los niños pobres (2010) in Spanish]. Written by Jorge, an article on this subject was published by the magazine of the School of Graduate Studies on December 2013. His previous thesis are "Professional prestige of a movie director in the city of Lima according to the offering of book collections devoted to filmmakers" (2007) and "Cessation of production of a contemporary Peruvian soap opera due to low rating. Case 'Apocalipsis' by Iguana Producciones" (2000).
Fascinated by the American film industry, Jorge Luis Villacorta Santamato sent several research proposals to the Academy Film Scholars Program, and educational program supported by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Even though his projects were not selected the titles show his interest in the American moviemaking: "The Films of Richard Donner" (2008), "Movies and Psywar" (2011), "Hollywood: PSYOP, 811 & Horus" (2012), "Hollywood and Project Blue Beam: Predictive Programming, Subliminals and Information Operations" (2013), "Occult Hollywood, the New World Order, and Leonidas Zegarra" (2016), "Hollywood and The U.S. Intelligence Community: Typical Images" (2017), "Latinos and The American Film Industry" (2018), "Donald Trump: Actor's Actor. A Marxist Perspective" (2019), "Hollywood Movies as Byproduct of a Virtual World" (2019), "Bourgeois and Petit Bourgeois Film Modes of Production as Art Projects or, The American Film Industry, its Artistic Boundaries, and the Kind of Film Style Beyond the Outer Limits to its Accumulated Economic, Cultural, Social, and Symbolic Capital" (2020), "Unions and Rising Production Budgets in the U.S. Film Industry: The Slaves Who Don't Picture Themselves As Freemen" (2020).
He was invited to give a conference at UCAL (Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de América Latina) on July 4, 2013. The subject was "Movies: The Subliminal Contents". The first semester of 2015 Jorge Villacorta was teaching the course "Journalism and Disinformation" at UPC (Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas). Lecturing he emphasizes the relations between the media, the entertainment industry, the U.S. Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense in America.
As a hired teacher at UPC (Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas), in 2015, Jorge Luis Villacorta Santamato won two prizes during the Floral Games ['Juegos Florales'] in the categories "comic book" and "essay." The title of his comic book was "Horror" and the title of his essay was "Mass murder as a fine art" (in Spanish: 'El asesinato masivo como una de las bellas artes.') In 2016, he won again in the category "comic book" and he was given an honorable mention in the category "essay." The title of his comic book was "Audaz" (which means "audacious" in English) and the title of his essay was "The sublime American life compared to the sad Peruvian life ruined by the communist activity" (in Spanish: 'La excelsa vida estadounidense frente a la triste vida peruana arruinada por la acción comunista'.) Due to his interest in developing the research required by his doctoral thesis in the History of Art, he didn't sign the contract to teach another year after 2016 at UPC.
In September 2017, he began to teach the course "Directing Actors Workshop" ("Taller de Dirección de Actores" in Spanish) at the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM), located in Lima (Peru) Jorge Luis Villacorta Santamato was selected as a hired teacher for one semester by the School of Communication through a rigorous competitive process.
Between 2017 and 2020, Jorge Villacorta read books about filmmakers like Robert Bresson, Yasujiro Ozu, and Karl Dreyer. Also, he read about related topics, basically the filmmaking style of those and other film directors with a similar directing style. He became theoretically interested in a filmmaking style named "parametric narration" by the American film theorist David Bordwell in his books 'Narration in the Fiction Film' and 'Making Meaning: Inference and Rhetoric in the Interpretation of Cinema.'
Jorge used to provide personal film criticism to the Peruvian filmmaker Leonidas Zegarra and is the appointed curator of the Leonidas Zegarra House Museum (known as "Casa Museo Leonidas Zegarra" in Spanish, a work in progress created by the Peruvian artist Fernando Gutiérrez, aka "Huanchaco" ). Also, he has documented in video format the field trip developed by the Swedish artist Christine Jacobsson in the Peruvian territory (2013).
