- Volodymyr Glukhyi was a Ukrainian stage and film actor best known for his long-standing work with the Maria Zankovetska National Academic Drama Theatre in Lviv.
He first stepped onto the amateur stage during his school years in Dobromyl' (1945-1955), thanks to the encouragement of theatre group leader Sofiia Vovchyk. Later, he graduated from the Faculty of Philology at Lviv University, where he was actively involved in the university drama troupe under the direction of People's Artist of Ukraine, Oleksandr Hai.
After defending his thesis on the history of Ukrainian vaudeville, Hlukhyi fully immersed himself in theatre. One of his early diploma productions was City at Dawn by Aleksei Arbuzov, in which he played the role of Altman.
In 1961, he joined the troupe of the Maria Zankovetska Theatre, alongside fellow actors Natalia Lototska, Bohdan Stupka, Viktor Kovalenko, and Alla Babenko. Seventeen years later, he was honored with the title of Merited Artist of Ukraine.
In addition to acclaimed performances in plays such as Stolen Happiness (I. Franko), The Sea of Life (I. Karpenko-Karyi), and The Stone Host (Lesia Ukrainka), he appeared in several films, including I, Francysk Skaryna, The Lost Letter, and The Memory of the Land. His final stage role was the Matador in Arena by I. Fridberg.
Volodymyr Glukhyi died just months before his 50th birthday. He was buried in Lviv at the Yaniv Cemetery, Field No. 16.
