- Fiona Kelleghan was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, on April 21, 1965, to Paul G. Feehan (b. May 18, 1935), a librarian and writer, and Jane Fairfax Ream Feehan (b. December 12, 1939), a law school financial administrator and later librarian. Her parents later moved to Miami with their three children: Fiona, son Christopher John (b. June 4, 1963) and daughter Elizabeth Jane (b. October 20, 1966); they both worked at the University of Miami for several decades.
Kelleghan attended Miami Palmetto Junior and Senior High Schools, focusing on literature and languages. She entered the University of Miami at age 17, earning a B.A. with majors in English and minors in History, Philosophy and German. Having begun a job at U.M.'s Richter Library, she earned a Master's in Library and Information Science from Florida State University and, later, an M.A. in English from University of Miami.
From 1989, Kelleghan was a meta-data librarian and a cataloger at the University of Miami's Otto G. Richter Library, before leaving the University in 2011 due to chronic pain.
Interested in science fiction, fantasy and horror throughout her life, Kelleghan edited books and wrote subjects on these topics.
She and Tim Sullivan became room-mates in South Miami in 2003; they separated in 2018, with Kelleghan staying in South Miami.

- I had a compound fracture of my left humerus in 2017... I have a literal screw loose!...at an angle reminiscent of a playful pose by Javier Botet. My doctor screamed, "It's going to bust right through your skin!" Since Aliens (1986) remains my absolutely favorite movie of all time, I really look forward to seeing what a Xenomorph armburster will look like.
