Jerry de Mars

Jerry de Mars is a Dutch-born, French-raised filmmaker and photographer known for powerful documentaries exploring humanitarian and environmental issues. With a background in social sciences and cultural anthropology, he began his filmmaking career documenting activists, which sparked a passion that led him to the Dutch independent film scene. His work includes collaborations with NGOs and the United Nations, capturing stories across Africa, particularly in Senegal, Mauritania, and Mali, where he has filmed on topics like refugee experiences and women's rights in gold-mining regions. His documentary Women of Gold, shot in Tanzania, was selected by multiple international festivals and broadcast on Dutch TV channel NPO Extra. Jerry also directed the award-winning short fiction film Think of Something Blue (2018), based on a poem by Martijn den Ouden. As creative director of Beyond Borders Media, he continues to blend anthropology and visual storytelling, amplifying voices that are often left unheard.
