Biography

Jonathan "Jay Clique" Clarke is a British multi-talented composer, music producer and singer-songwriter. Jay has composed for several short films and continues to release music under his artist name. These releases include his two albums "The Rebuild" (2017) and "10,000 Hours" (2019), the second of which was long-listed for the 'Northern Ireland Music Prize' in 2020. His albums are palpable evidence that, although he is primarily a creator of Hip-Hop and R&B music, he is incredibly versatile in his approach to music production. In the past 3 years, Jay has seen success with his music being featured on Sheffield Live, Verve Radio, Radio Sandwell and BBC Radio Ulster - ATL Introducing, as well as being added to "A Celebration of Music by Black Artists Throughout Ireland", a playlist curated by ATL (BBC Sounds). Jay matches his ability to make vibrant and commercial music with his eagerness for delivering compelling visual content. As a Director, Jay has found a way of connecting with his audience on a different level and often directs and edits his own music videos as well as short films. The video for "Pretty", Jay's 2018 single, received recognition when it was shortlisted and went on to achieve the runner up position in the Music Video category at the Wadadli Short Film Festival, held in Antigua. His passion, however, is for composing, admitting he enjoys the freedom and challenges of exploring new film genres through music creation. Throughout his career, Jay has continually bettered himself through education, having achieved a First Class with Honours in his Music Technology BSc degree and completed "Professional Approaches to Singing", a year-long course at WAC Arts in London.
