Biography

  • Brenda Li Garcia is a stage trained actress born in San Antonio, TX. She loves using her tremendous range to bring characters to life. The roles she has played have varied from sexy comic book villainesses, to the dark twisted grandmother in Buchner's Woyzeck, the German Tragedy. She is a seasoned veteran of the performing arts.

Brenda started dancing at age 5, when her mom began taking her to Mexican Folklorico dance lessons, and became a professional by high school. She also fell in love with the beautiful art of Flamenco, where she achieved an advanced skill level.

In high school she decided to branch out into two other areas: music and theater. Brenda began playing trumpet as a freshman, and by her sophomore year was getting awards and high rankings at competitions. She eventually became the drum major and soloist. She also joined the high school's theater program, under the direction of the award winning director and author, the late Bruce Limpus. Originally in a stand-by role, she was quickly promoted to supporting actress and became the lead actress by her senior year. During her time in the program she brought home several UIL awards.

Brenda then went on to continue her education at the University of Rochester in New York. During her first year, she was accepted into the prestigious Eastman School of Music, where her instructor wanted to present her to the board for early admission into their PhD music program. Her primary instrument was the trumpet, and she also played the piano. By her final year she became the assistant conductor to the university's band. She also became involved in the university's International Theater Program, under the direction of Mervin Willis. Her role as the dark, fairy-tale telling grandmother in Woyzech, solidified her spot as an actress. The director, so impressed with her work, expanded her role to appear throughout the entire play, including the opening and final scenes. She was described as, "the shining light of the play" by critics.

After college, she spent several years in the private sector. She is fluent in Spanish, but her early career as a business consultant allowed her to improve her ability to pick up new languages. She conducted business calls and employee training in French, Portuguese, Italian, and Japanese.

Some of Brenda's hobbies include snowboarding and Japanese Calligraphy. She also plays the trumpet and performs with the San Antonio Symphony during their Pro-Am concerts. Brenda received her BA in Health & Society from the University of Rochester in New York and her nursing license from the Baptist School of Health Professions in San Antonio, TX. She is married to Christopher Garcia, P.E. a mechanical engineer.
