Birgitta Liljedahl, originally a columnist for The Gothenburg Post, first gained recognition with her 1991 novel "Nowegian balcony tango."

She later focused on environmental and conflict issues, producing films and articles about conflicts in Kosovo and DR Congo. Before her literary pursuits, Liljedahl was a geologist in gold mining, then an environmental consultant. In 1996, she joined the Swedish Defence Research Agency, analyzing environmental impacts in war zones like Afghanistan, Sudan, and DR Congo. She also led projects related to environmental intelligence for the Swedish Armed Forces and collaborated with the United Nations on peacekeeping operations, including work in South Sudan and Haiti. Liljedahl's contributions to environmental research in conflict zones earned her the Royal Swedish Academy of War Science's "Silver Medal" in 2004 and a nomination for the UN21 award in 2010. Her diverse career spans literature, environmental analysis, and international peacekeeping efforts.

In 2011, Liljedahl ventured into screenwriting with "The Pulse", a Sci-fi script, and other projects like "The Combat Wedding" and "Guerilla Barbie", collaborating with Marilyn Horowitz in New York. Through 2020-2024 she wrote, directed and completed production of three short films, Autonomous-the Bus, Thoughout time and Potato.

Liljedahl has been characterized as "something in a Swedish literary context as unusual, as a talented absurdist. A hard to capture cross between the poet Kristina Lugn* and the columnist Runa Brar." "She moves thru a suburb mined by surprises, with sovereign contempt for the normal borders of story telling" (Tomas Löfström Sydsvenska dagbladet (South Swedish daily) 27/3 1991)
