Biography

Matthew Wesley Walker is from Saint Petersburg, Florida. His parents, Michael Walker, a personal attorney, and Nancy Schaer (née Williams), a hospitality manager at Moffitt Cancer Center, are originally from Lafayette, IN. Walker was raised across Pinellas County-including Tarpon Springs, Palm Harbor, Saint Petersburg, and Clearwater-Walker cultivated a passion for the arts early on, graduating from Shorecrest Preparatory School in 2009 with a strong focus on visual and interdisciplinary arts.

He earned his BA in Interdisciplinary Arts with high honors from Eckerd College (2009-2013), where he completed an honors thesis and discovered his love for performance through the college's improv troupe, Another Man's Trash. After college, Walker moved to Los Angeles in 2014 to pursue comedy and improvisation, collaborating with Cole Laddusaw and Alec Ogg on projects like The Beer Milkshake Podcast. During this time, he worked at the Nerdmelt Showroom at Meltdown Comics and on the Universal lot for Hollywood Game Night, immersing himself in alternative comedy and live production.

Returning to Florida in 2016, Walker became a driving force in the underground comedy scene in Saint Petersburg, producing shows such as A Murder of Shows, The Nest, The Never No Show, The Estate Show, and The Best F**king Show. His punk rock sensibility and DIY ethos laid the groundwork for his transition into film and television.

Since 2020, Walker has built a dynamic career as an actor, writer, and producer in Florida's independent film community. His screen credits include Bomber (2022), Second Take (2023), Thanks, Twelve (2024), Busking in Tampa (2024), God's Fingers (2025), Miniature Man (2025), Shark Teeth (2022), Over the Influence (2023), and Somewhere in Florida (2026). He frequently collaborates with filmmakers Dylan Melcher, Kristofer Atkinson, Dylan Taylor, Liz Davis, Vanessa Diaz, Kyle O'Brien, and Dean Donnini.

Walker's writing credits include the optioned feature Up North, the feature God's Fingers (2025), and the pilot We Are Island (2023). He was staffed in three writers' rooms through Florida Studio Theatre's Playwright Project in 2020, working alongside Julia Morales, Robert Woo, and Sarah Durham to develop original sketch comedy.

As of 2025, Walker's feature God's Fingers, co-created with Dylan Melcher, is set for its festival debut, marking a new chapter in his evolving career as a multi-hyphenate storyteller in the Southeast's growing entertainment landscape.
