- Franz Hofer was born on November 27, 1902 in Bad Hofgastein, Salzburg, Austria. He died on February 18, 1975 in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany.
- 1937: became leader of the "Leaders' and Members' Political Gathering Place for Austrians in Germany".
- Gauleiter [party leader of a regional branch of the NSDAP] of the Tyrol and Vorarlberg.
- Because of his association within the Nazi Party [banned in Austria] was arrested in June of 1933 and sentenced by a Tyrolean court to two years in prison. In which armed SA men broke into his prison cell and freed him [August 30th 1933] fleeing to Italy, however, and, weeks later, gave a speech at the Nuremberg Party Congress from his stretcher.
