Biography

A documentary filmmaker, researcher and editorial contributor with Austrian routes and Italian background, Bernadette Weber actively works for international creative documentary productions as well as for TV documentary formats and journalistic outlets, as a director, dramaturgical consultant and (occasionally) camera person, between Austria and Italy.

Bernadette (they/she) majored in cinematography at ZeLIG School for Documentary (IT), she is an alumnus of ESoDoc - European Social Documentary, holds a master’s degree in philosophy and a doctorate in humanities - ethics and political philosophy, from the University of Genova (IT) and UPF Barcelona (ES) respectively. In her career, Bernadette worked as cinematographer and videographer (in documentary, theatre and journalism) after starting out as an editor and working in the camera/light departments of diverse film genres. Academically she has been dedicated to the ethics of communication, meta-ethics and social change, a focus that led her to some teaching experience in contemporary thought and public talks about the ethics in documentary and journalism, and the creative process. Moreover, she served as a jury member for short film festivals, she is one of the founders of LAND in Liguria (IT) and was a coordinator for Talents Nest at Vilnius International Film Festival (LT) as well as Industry Coordinator of the Coproduction Forum of European Short Pitch (FR).

In 2023 she founded the company Visioni.
