Biography

Clarissa Appelt is Brazilian director-screenwriter, her first feature "Cecilia's House" premiered at Mostra Tiradentes and later released on Canal Brasil and in theaters independently, listing Clarissa as the revelation voice of the new horror scene. In 2020, Clarissa graduated with a Fulbright scholarship at the MFA in Screenwriting at USC, where she wrote the horror short film "Unidentified", screened at ScreamFest 2019. She is the founder and instructor of the screenwriting program for underrepresented voices, Fulbright New Voices, and also worked on series development rooms at Urca Filmes and Chatrone. Her second feature "Narcisa's Will" won the audience award for best feature on Rio International Film Festival, Novos Rumos, and premiered at Cinequest followed by Julien Dubuque Film Festival, Panic Fest, Chattanooga Film Festival, Popcorn Frights, Shangai International Film Festival and Macabro, Mexico City International Film Festival. The film was also shortlisted by the Brazilian Film Academy as one of fifteen to dispute the Brazilian nomination to the Oscars.
