Biography

Derek John San Filippo was born December 20th, 1989, in San Diego, California.

Derek caught the acting bug while at the Art Institute of California, San Diego, studying Media Arts and Animation. The Media Arts students were required to take a voice and movement class; it was here that Derek's passion for acting was born.

He began going to school for theatre acting and was soon in his first production, a touring show called Inside the Actors Process where he embodied multiple roles. Derek's first full stage production was The Odyssey where he played Zeus, the king of gods.

During this time, Derek was given the opportunity to be in several commercials and voice overs for a local production company, introducing him to the world of film.

Since starting in acting Derek's favorite roles have included iconic characters such as Porthos the musketeer, the evil Mr. Hyde, and the brilliant Professor Henry Higgins. He was cast in 2014 in an independent feature film called "Black and White", a mystery thriller by Richard Allen that will be released in 2015.

Derek especially loves stage combat and has taken courses in fencing and private instruction in Arnis de Mano in addition to ongoing private acting lessons in Los Angeles from Michael Woolson Studio.

He lives in El Cajon with his wife where they run a non-profit horse rescue and youth outreach.
