- Crystal LaBeija (?-1982), a Manhattan drag queen originally known as Crystal LaAsia, was the legendary "Mother"/founder of The House of LaBeija (1977-) in New York City. She has been seen as the pioneer of the drag balls. Not much is known about her life but she became a legend and icon for the drag queens of color.
